The 25th infantry regiment takes the field : typescript, 1993, November/December : a salute to baseball in the army's black infantry, 1894-1919 / by Jerry Malloy. 1993.

Using baseball as a backdrop, Malloy explores the history and social issues surrounding the 25th infantry from 1894-1919. The accounts of Dalbert "Mickey" Green, found in John Nankivell's book, "History of the twenty-fifith regiment of the United States infantry, 1869-1926", provide insight into the infantry team and the trials they faced during this period of racial strife. By 1920, many of those playing on the 25th infantry team made the transition from a military to a civilian team, the Kansas City Monarchs. Wilber "Bullet" Rogan was one of those players, and he went on to play with the Monarchs for seventeen years.
